A magician is booked to perform on the Titanic, and duly boards the ship. It sets sail, and every night until it's sinking he performs to the amusement of the passengers.
Everything is going well on first night, until he realises that one of the parrots he brought with him has the annoying tendency to give away his tricks. So, for example, when he's in the middle of a card trick, the parrot would squawk "IT'S UP HIS SLEEVE! IT'S UP HIS SLEEVE!", or when the magician was holding a top-hat the bird would shreik, "IT'S DOWN HIS TROUSERS! IT'S DOWN HIS TROUSERS!!". This infuriated the magician but delighted the audience.
So, one fateful night, the Titanic struck the iceberg, and was doomed to a watery grave. The magician managed to escape; bobbing around in the water for a bit, he saw an empty lifeboat and swam towards it. On he got, and he lay there - utterly exhausted - for several hours. He eventually fell asleep.
When he woke up, the first thing he saw was a shadowy creature on the bow of the lifeboat. Clearing his eyes, he saw that it was of course the highly annoying parrot.
Magician and parrot stared at each other for a few tense, wordless minutes.
The magician would be damned if he was to share the boat with this avian hooligan.
It was to his eternal surprise, then, when the bird looked around a bit, and said in the quietest voice possible: "All right, I give up. Where's the ship?" |
